Women Who Kill (2016)
This film is about two lady exes who host a true crime podcast together. I was instantly satisfied with this premise. What a treat. After Morgan (I think) meets the mysterious Symone who floated into their Park Slope Co-op like the day-walking vampire widow that she most certainly was, they start to date and Jean (Morgan’s ex) rage-googles Symone only to find that her identity does not exist. Who better to solve this mystery than a white lady true crime podcaster? Literally no one. Defund the police and give all the open crime cases to these bitches.
Yearning is a 2 due to the fact that we mostly get bummer-ific yearning from Jean who is obviously still in love with Morgan. Not super fun. Sex scene, there are only a few make outs, which I appreciate, do not get me wrong, I will accept any scrap of queer physical affection which I am afforded- but I deserve more, ya know? Everyone who speaks more than 5 lines is white. Authenticity is perfect due to the fact that it was written and directed by one of the main Lesbos. The whole exes deal is on the noise...or so I have been told.. Craft is a 3.5 due to the quick writing, the equally thoughtful and austere use of music, and pretty much everything up until the last 10 minutes...which were a bit of a miss for me.
